Why not try a copper IUD? First off, there are no hormones so there can't be weight gain or mood swings. Secondly, it is effective for 10 years so it's by far the cheapest. It's also more effective than the pill because it's constant, and you can't forget to take it. I'm thinking of getting one myself.

A review of medical studies about the pill and weight gain by the Cochrane Library (it's a source of information for doctors), found that there is no significant weight gain from taking the pill.I really would suggest you stick with a hormonal contraceptive rather than a barrier one (like condoms) because they're considerably more effective at preventing pregnancy. You could look into a copper IUD (which isn't a hormonal or barrier contraceptive) if you're that intent on cutting out the extra hormones.Your diet is likely to be more the problem. Either too many calories or the wrong kind of diet. If you haven't looked into the GI diet, please do look into it. It's just about the only diet I've seen that has a sensible scientific basis to it. Buy a book on it and trial it for a few months, I'm sure you'll see the difference.Other than that, things like walking instead of driving can help shed the pounds.
