My boyfriend was texting me one day, supposedly while he was using the restroom and he dropped his phone in the toilet(I know, nasty.) well, he got it to work, he used a hair dryer to dry it and he can make outgoing calls and recieve texts but anytime I or anyone else tries to call him, it won't go through. Does anyone know how to fix this at all??

(i don't know what is worse. Having the desperate need to pee after holding it in for so long, the previous user did not flush, or the retrieval and inconvenience of the cell in the pee. stress i tell you.)

reader, anonymous, writes (13 January 2010): i thought the day was going great
but then i had to take a break
one to many cokes
one to many glass
In fact it was an ordinary day
No calling my gal
No ringing my pal
The phone fell into a pot of poo
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you
I tried to call to say I love you
I tried to call to say how much I care
I tried to call to say I love you
I fished my phone out from the bottom of the pot
in summer's high
in warm July
when the harvest moon lights one tender August night
on the autumn breeze
the time of falling leaves
Not even one small call to brighten up your eyes
No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
I dropped my phone into a pot of poo
I cant call to say I love you
I cant call to say how much I care, I do
I cant call to say I love you
i dropped my phone into the bottom of the pot
I cant call to say I love you
I cant call to say how much I care, I do
I cant call to say I love you
i dropped my phone into the bottom of the pot, of the pot,
Of the pot
I just dropped my phone while it was ringing
I just dropped it in the commode all full of poo
I lost my grip, and watched it falling
And I saw it hit the bottom of the pot, of the pot,
bottom of the pot
my apologies to stevie wonder-mal

If recently drenched (same situation happened to me with my 3rd iPhone :/ ) DO NOT turn it on (it is likely to short-circuit if you do, and this will, in turn, render it at least partially useless) until you are sure it is as dried out as it can get. Since he is already past the point of no return, & has done the right thing by using a blowdryer to expedite drying, he could still try & put it in a bag of rice for a day or two (3+ ideally, though this is highly unrealistic)...the rice will drain all the remaining liquid. If this doesn't work, he should try & exchange it (better yet, you, as the female, should!). If no luck still, get a new, cheap one & be more careful! I personally try to switch an older, less valuable phone out with my 4th iPhone on the weekends or any time I know I'll be imbibing. Good luck!

probably best to get a new one.
I fix laptops and when people spill water or beer or wine on laptops they try to turn it on or wipe it off or use a hair dryer to fix it but all of these things are not a good idea when liquid comes in contact with electronics and using a hair dryer can make it worse and melt parts inside easy.
next time if it happens, dismantle the phone and let it dry on its own, DO NOT try and turn it on until it is totally dry.

YUCK!! Replace it!!! Yuck, it's got poo all over it now! Even if the toilet had been flushed... that phone was in contact with a surface that was touched by poo. ICK!!!!
Replace it... it's just a phone, not an irreplaceable item of sentimental value, or a rare gem.
Before he does, though, make sure he can transfer the contacts to the new phone!!

Get him a new phone. Even if it's a cheap one, at least he's got a working phone whether it's temporary or not.

Well it is dependent on what model it is. Hopefully he had some type of insurance on the phone.
Regardless if he did or not if he gets the phone replaced he should still have his contacts in the chip or maybe he was smart enough to back them up online. Many don't of course because they don't expect to drop their phone in the crapper If however he used a phone with a SIM card most likely there will be some problem in transferring the contacts, but its not impossible. at any rate if he does use a Sim Card take it to the store and just ask to get a used SIM card and to transfer the contacts. It takes about 15 seconds to do.

Failing that, leave it turned off and to dry in the sun for a day or so.
Water and electronics don't mix.
