Now, I typically use condoms where penetrative sex is concerned but there have been occasions where I've received unprotected oral sex. I've done some research and apparently, it's extremely rare for anyone to contract serious STDs like HIV or Hepatitis C through oral sex alone. In your opinion, would it be fair to say that I have nothing serious to worry about? Or would you recommend that I get a complete STD test done?

When having unprotected sex with ANYONE in a high risk group you SHOULD test and RE-test in 3-6 months.
You doctor will ASK about your sexual habits and will probably suggest which you should test for and how often.

Sorry I am listening to the Beatles whilst I write this.

Get yourself tested. Minimize using sex workers who will expose you to more than just HIV. HIV being one of the worst.
You can also contract Hep B, and that can be contracted through only a kiss. Mononucleosis, and other diseases. There is not only the risk of catching disease, there is the risk of spreading disease. Please sir, use precaution for your protection and others. Period!

They were pretty grim, but I do appreciate the fact that all of you were being sincere and honest. I'm going to refrain from frequenting sex-workers for the next month or so while I wait to get tested for HIV and HEP C.

I'm not sure why she was happy to take the risk, but can understand you being happy for her to do it, but yes, be aware of there being a small risk. Would I be right that the risk is higher to her than to you?

Though you do fall in high risk by using sex workers, regular condom usage should protect you 97% . Considering that not every sex worker has STD, and you use condoms 100%, you are pretty safe. just be sure you were your size, and it won't come off during sex.

Ues, you should worry. Most of all, you should also worry about " typically " using condoms with prostitutes, i.e. using them often, but not ALWAYS ( With a professional sex worker ? ! What is it, you like Russian roulette ?!)
Yes, you should definitely get tested. and yes, you should be less imprudent in future.

Yes, you should worry.
YES, you should test. And re-test 6 months later.
Some STD's are even transmittable WITH a condom. Such as HPV and YOU can't even get tested for that one. You can have HPV and transfer it to other partners WITHOUT having any symptoms and without knowing.
SEX workers do NOT have to show you a clean bill of health. You, as a customer do NOT have to show the sex workers a clean bill of health.
The likelihood of you contracting a STD is WAY higher then someone in a "normal" relationships. Consider this, YOU have basically been in contact SEXUALLY with EVERY single customer the sex-worker has had sex with. So even IF you have only had sex with (let's say) 10 sex workers, they each have sex with 5-10 people A DAY. That is UP towards 3,000 a YEAR (if she/he takes a few days off) The LIKELIHOOD of any of these 3,000 having a STD is exponentially HIGHER then having sex with a girl who has had 0-10 BF's.
ALWAYS ALWAYS use condoms. ALWAYS ALWAYS use common-sense.

reader, anonymous, writes (1 May 2014): Sir, you may have done research about the "rarity" of contracting HIV or Hep C through receiving oral sex,and misinterpret the data to mean you "will not" get infected.
There are many types of STD's; and you had better be sure you have no open sores or cuts in your skin.
You increase your risk of infection; because of the frequency of exposure; and the fact you get sex from people who have multiple partners. They have sex for a living!!!
They don't test their patrons for diseases before sex! They have no immunity to STD's! You can get antibiotic-resistant staph and fungal infections that are transmitted by skin contact. That means they are extremely hard to treat. Sex worker's bodies are in contact with customers who could have anything.
These workers are exposed on an hourly or daily basis to bodily fluids of people who could be actively infected with diseases. You don't know if a worker had unprotected sex only minutes before engaging in intercourse with you.
They might even be infected themselves and knowingly passing the disease to their customers. What guarantees do you have?
People actually believe HIV cannot be transmitted from vaginal fluid. Only semen and blood. It only takes one time without a condom. Condoms also break, or have small tears you may not even notice. I highly doubt you only engage in oral sex, if you frequent sex workers weekly.

Be aware of the incubation periods of each STD, i.e. the length of time between catching something and it showing up positive in a test.

I'd say you do have something to worry about.
Firstly you say you "typically" use condoms for penetrative sex, not "always". It should, must, be ALWAYS with any stranger but especially a sex worker.
Secondly, STDs can be passed on via unprotected oral sex and if you've caught something that's dormant you could pass it on to anyone else who comes into contact with your penis.
Think of herpes. A high proportion of adults has herpes (~80%). If the sex worker has ever had a cold sore, she carries herpes and could give you genital herpes via unprotected oral sex. You may not even know you have it until you pass it on to some one else.
So yes, you need the full battery of STD tests.
If are going to continue visiting sex workers, you should really restrict yourself to ones who are much more professional than the ones you've used up to this point.

I think you fall into a high-risk category for STDs. If you have never been tested, it's way past time. Go see your doctor and be honest. They can't help you if you don't disclose information pertinent to your health and well-being.
The Mayo Clinic has this list http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sexually-transmitted-diseases-stds/basics/risk-factors/con-20034128 and you tick 3 of the boxes.
Go get tested.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (30 April 2014): You are living a high-risk lifestyle by frequenting sex workers. You must get a full battery are tests for all possible STD's. You not only stand the risk of infection; but you may be spreading infection.
You are being very foolish to think that it's okay to play against the odds. The risk may be low, but you may be one of the unfortunate individuals in the lowest percentile. You increase your risk by frequency; multiples of partners, and your habit of using sex workers.
You are playing Russian Roulette with your life and health.
You are also risking the life and safety of others.
You can get diseases that are asymptomatic and could remain silent for years. Many of which are untreatable and degenerative in nature. They are discovered or detected only when the irreversible damage is done.
It is best you stop with the sex workers. Get tested for any and every possible sexually transmitted disease; and find a less risky way to find sexual gratification.
