Question - (28 June 2008) 6 Answers - (Newest, 28 June 2008)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi everyone, this is gonna sound gross, but I have a lot of hair on my stomach and some in-grown hairs on my chest, I pluck them but its obvious that hair grows there, I also have hair that grows around my nipple and a few on my neck and chin. I don't know what to do. I wax and everything.

I'm 17. I'm embarrassed and my b/f makes fun of me and so does my family. I never had a lot of hair on my tummy but when I was younger and realized all the other girls didn't have hair on their tummies I shaved it not knowing it would only grow back worse. Now 6 years latter im paying the price.

What do I do?

If you want to get rid of it forever, I'd suggest laser hair removal. it's expensive but it does remove the hair permenantly and will get rid of the spots where there are ingrowns. Research it a little. But once this hair is gone via laser removal it'll never come back.

You know, technically the hair is the same colour and thickness no matter how much you shave it.

It looks thicker and darker because the shave nips the tip, making it appear darker then the rest of the hair.

Anyway, you can wax... meaning it has to re-grow from scratch, or fork out the money for permanent hair removal.

youre most definitely normal. however, you could always get permanent hair removal if it's bothering you THAT much... but if not then just try to roll with the punches

A female reader, sarcy24 United Kingdom +, writes (28 June 2008):

sarcy24 agony auntYou are totally normal and the old wives tale of shaved hairs growing back more robust and in greater number is just that - an old wives tale. If you have hairs growing round the nipples as nearly all women do unless they are naturally very pale blonde in hair colour just pluck them out with tweezers. What you have described is totally natural and nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe your boyfriend and your family make fun because they know its something that bothers you and people close to you can often take the pi**. I suggest you laugh back and say 'I know isn't it awful' or other such comments and they will soon stop. If you don't rise to the jibes they will soon stop. You are perectly normalin every way so stop worrying. All the best.

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (28 June 2008):

birdynumnums agony auntYOU ARE NORMAL!!!

Your hair isn't growing back at twice the rate simply because you have removed it, that's simply an old wives tale. We women are all led to believe, because of airbrushed models, that body hair is abnormal.

IT IS NOT.

AND it does vary quite a bit from female to female, depending on your genetics, race and How Old You Are!!! We all get a lot more hair as we age, especially old ladies who have gone through the change of life called menopause.

SO, sorry to be the person to burst your bubble, but you ARE perfectly normal. Unfortunately, now the Best thing to do is by a copy of Allure and keep up with the best methods to remove hair.

BTW, don't remove it all, with regards to your bikini line. Men don't appreciate a woman who looks like a pre-pubescent girl.
