A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

There's this guy, 18 (im 15), and I've known him all my life since the day I was born (let's call him Ollie). Hes been like a brother to me all my life and looks after me helps me etc. We've always been very close and would cuddle up on the sofa, and nothing more than good friends to be thought of it.

Anyways recently we both went away with our swimming club, and me being the youngest on the trip got looked after a lot. On the second to last night, I was exceptionally tired as I had been racing all day and was really worn out etc and Ollie came into my room to check I was okay and came over to give me a cuddle. We layed there for quite a bit just chatting really and in the end we both fell asleep with each other. I didn't think anything of it, I mean nothing happened, or would have but it's got out and people keep commenting on it saying he's unreliable etc and how I fell asleep in his arms (which technically I did, but not in that sense) I don't know what to think, nothing happend so why is everyone making such a big deal out of it? some advice please x

AskEve agony auntDazzerg is absolutely right! Forget all the gossip, YOU know the truth and that's all that matters. The more you let people see it worries you, the more they'll do it. Let them think what they want... "todays gossip is tomorrows history" as something else will soon come up to keep their tongues wagging.

Dazzerg agony auntBecause peoples chief topic of conversation is the doings of other people; no matter how old you are or where you go, sadly its part of human nature to take an interest in the affairs of others, its part of what keeps us bound together in a sense of community. It's not always pleasent but that's the way it is sadly. Try not to let it bother you and turn the other cheek, you and him know the truth and thats all that matters, there will soon be some other story to occupy people. Good luck.
