Penetration became difficult when he tried, but eventually it happened. It was quite painful, but no bleeding. This is the second time I'd be having sex after going for 7 months breaking and I saw blood on my pants and also some spots of blood on the toilet tissue. What could have happened?

Probably nothing much : if it was just some light spotting, either he was too vigourous, or you weren't excited ( and lubricated ) enough, and so the excess of friction broke some capillary. Tell him to go easier, or use lube.
If it happens again, though, see an OB/GYN : recurrent bleeding after sex may indicate cervical inflammations or a sexually transmitted infection.
