The advice I need is that I am currently not on the pill strange I know due to my age (24) but I have never wanted to until now and I am a virgin. I went to my GP to go on the pill and they wont put me on the pill as I am not sexually active although I said well I am going to be, they said it would be safe enough just to use a condom (no wonder there are so many teenage mums). The problem is I cant get another appointment with another doctor in time as I am due my period in a few days. Should I take the risk in sleeping with my boyfriend and just take the morning after pill as well as using a condom. What can I do.

Your GP is not supposed to tell you that. Some girls just go on the pill as soon as they turn 16. The only reason a GP can deny the pill to you is if it will have negative effects on your health. Go to a local Family Planning or GUM clinic and they will sort you out =]

You don't need both forms of protection, a condom, so long as it is used properly, is fine. It's not strange to not be on the pill at any age. A lot of women don't like the pill. Condoms are a lot more effective than people make them out to be. You don't need a condom and the morning after pill or the pill. Also if you do start the pill, never take the morning after pill on top of it.

Using a condom is actually safe enough. It's nothing wrong with condoms being defected. The problem is that teenage moms didn't use the condom... You shouldn't use the morning after pill as it is only an emergency contraception. You can buy it and have it ready though, just in case you experience some difficulties with the condom. Have you ever rolled on a condom before? Has he? You should practice a little before having sex, putting a condom on him the right way. There are instructions that come with the condom.
As for the doctor appointment: you can go to a doctor even if you are on your period. I don't see how that affects anything. A doctor does NOT need to examine your vagina in order to prescribe you birth control. All you should check is blood pressure and family history, if anyone in your family has high blood pressure etc, and if you smoke and things like that. No need for a physical exam of your privates....
Also, a birth control pill is good enough as protection on it's own as well. I understand you want to be safe, but don't scare yourself to death with this. The women who get pregnant while using one contraceptive or the other got pregnant because they didn't use the contraceptive correctly.

Good point about the teenage mums. But getting to the point, condoms are about 97% reliable. So use that and the morning after pill, and you should be fine.
