Need some help picking a pill

Question - (7 June 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 7 June 2009)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about 4 months and have both been tested for STDs recently (negative tests). We have been using condoms, but I want to try a different method of birth control and was thinking of going on the pill. I was on Yasmin for cycle problems a few years back (for two years) and didn't notice any side effects other than my breasts got noticeably larger and I was occasionally nauseous. However, I wouldn't be able to tell if my libido was lowered since I wasn't having sex. I've read a lot about women who completely LOST their libidos, went raving mad, and I've also read a bunch of frightening articles about young, healthy women dying from birth control related blood clots, especially with Yaz and Yasmin (and all third generation pills). Also, most reviews are negative on the internet. People don't go on the internet when things are working, they go when there's a problem. I know (most) doctors mean well, but they dispense what they are told to dispense and are paid to dispense. That's just how medicine is nowadays. I need some help picking a pill!

ArmyMedic agony auntAs someone who has had medical training I totally agree with Ted-ster! This is an issue you need to talk to YOUR doctor about, not a bunch of anonymous faces who will tell you all kinds of crap about herbal remedies, and what helped them.

You need someone who knows your history, and can give you a proper examination to help you choose the best contraception for YOU!

I'm sorry to see you have such a high opinion of the internet and low opinion of Doctors!

Good luck

You need to be asking your medical doctor these questions, not a bunch of anonymous dopes with no (...or likely no) medical training. Talk to your doctor.
