I have some questions about the IUD coil

I am 24 and my partner he is 29, we have been together for almost 7 years.

since I was about 14 I have tried a lot of different forms of birth control, mostly in my younger teen years I was taking the pill to help control my periods pain, but I had been on about 4 different brands and they all caused weight gain and acne, and I am not just talking 1 or 2 kilos I am talking a brand new dress size.

during the start of our relationship I tried the injections and the implant but all cause weight gain and acne and really bad headaches.

for the last couple of years we have not been using condoms, pull out method or sometimes I have to take the morning after pill. I have never liked the pull out method or using morning after pill and we both find condoms a major turn off.

so I have been thinking of getting a IUD, but I have some questions about it because I want to make sure it will be the right thing for me and also I have to spend $200 to get my gynecologist just to fit it.

how long does it take to fit?

when fitted is it painful?

can it fall out during sex?

will my partner feel the strings during sex?..this is a concern for me as I worry this will be a turn off for him.

will it cause weight gain or acne?

will my periods become heavy?

PixiePie agony auntnot going to tell you what to do, but i have heard way too many horror stories to ever even think of using an IUD coil. a couple of people i know almost died even. plus they are extremely painful and affect periods and long term fertility if you ever were to want children.

however if you do do it and it works for you then good luck to you.

I have a paraguard and love it. I've had it for about a year now and despite it hurting when I first got it (it wasn't that bad but I drove back home from my visit and got really sick to my stomach and sweaty) it only hurt for one day. I had sex two days later with it. It takes about 10 minutes for it to be implanted. I had horrible depression on birth control and my period became worse as well. My period is about the same as when I was on birth control except it lasts for about 6 days now. I do get sharp cramps for about 4 days before my period but its not bad (i also have a high tolerance for pain). Your partner will only feel the iud if he is really deep during sex or in certain positions (my boyfriend has only mentioned it twice). Just make sure you are prepared in case your periods become severely worse, this is the number one complaint of people. I am really happy with mine and confident that it is working.

I tried to get mirena, but my uterus sits funny so they couldn't insert it, it was very painful when they tried to insert it. My doctor told me that it would not cause weight gain or acne, and she said you would bleed for awhile but then your periods would eventually stop. She also said it was better than the shot because one chemical stays in your body forever, the lovengestral goes straight to your uterus and not into your blood stream like depo or the pill does.

And it lasts five years which is a positive, I wish it would've worked out for me, but I'll just stick to Yaz right now.
