hey aunties, I really need help

I'm 19 and currently looking for a job, I've send out resumes but never actually got an interview, I think mostly due to the fact that I don't have any experience ( not even volunteer job)although I speak four languages i'm not entirely disqualified...), so now I'm trying to fix my very poor resume and I need help, what do you guys think I should list as hobbies, a.k.a interests? I really don't do anything exciting like horse riding or scuba diving , I'm a good swimmer, I love to read, I can bake rather well and I can crochet, I'm teaching myself how to sew ( well kinda, more like fixing the holes in my clothes and customizing the old ones, but well I need to embellish the truth), I'm not lying on my resume, though, but I need help... I would also like to know how to behave in a job interview, how to seem confident when i'm actually not... without coming across as cocky, please any advice you guys can offer will be most welcome.

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (26 May 2012):

The Realist agony auntYour resume should be short and to the point focused on the specific job that you are applying for. This is why a general resume may not be the best idea. Think about what characteristics would be good for the job and then characterize yourself in that manor. Personal hobbies and interests are best put in a cover letter. I am curious though, what jobs are you applying for?

Focus on that you can speak four languages and make sure it is one of the first things that is seen while reading your resume. Also try to avoid dropping your resume off to some low level worker who is just going to throw it in a pile. Even for a part time job it is best to meet with the person who does the hiring, shake their hand and give them your resume in person. That goes for online applications too. If you can do it in person then do that instead. Other then that the only other thing I can say is look for connections to various companies through friends or family. The hardest part is getting your foot in the door.

Best of luck to you.
