Yar I kinda think it comes across as 'Biker wannabe' or 'Try hard'. Sorry but I think your wife has this one right

Embarrassing? I am not too familiar with 'sons of anarchy' but I do know that if you have the vest and start putting the collector's badges on, you could invite trouble. Not because they are bikers but because some bikers take 'their' bike clubs very seriously and badges and jackets have to be earned before somebody wears them.
So maybe your wife is more concerned than embarrassed.
Do you have a bike or plan to get one? or maybe she will be embarrassed because you don't ride.
Bike clubs I am not into a bit too clannish I would think' but bikes yes! great fun on two wheels and a good social side if you like campfires and a beer, easy rider.

I agree with your wife.Perhaps someone else could explain it better than I can, but the Sons of Anarchy are closer to reality than any superhero movie, and the latter appeals to a wider audience, so one could brush that off as innocent humour. The former suggests real hero worship, which is a bit unbecoming in a grown man. A person wearing a superman t-shirt does not look like a wannabe. A man wearing a Sons of Anarchy vest does.

Don't wear it out for dinner, or sit on the front-row pew in your place of worship. I see gray-haired men in AC/DC tee-shirts, faded Grateful Dead tees; or their favorite bands from ancient times. Wearing them with pride. They don't seem to care if anybody's laughing at them.
I think your wife means you will embarrass "her" by wearing it.
If you're a biker, and you're a fan of the show; wear your vest on your motorcycle with pride. You don't need permission; you're a grown-man. It was designed for grown-ups; but not really appropriate for kids.
Just be sure you're not mistakenly associated with any cycle gangs, militias, or supremacists groups. Not everyone will know the origin and meaning of the emblem.

Is your wife normally controlling? Does she normally try to get you to bend to her will by mocking your decisions if they do not reflect what she wants? If so, then this is part of a bigger problem. If not, then perhaps the answer is to keep the wife and vest apart.
I really fail to understand why anyone would laugh at you because you have chosen to wear a vest reflecting a tv series. (I went through a phase where I wore a "Dog the Bounty Hunter" t-shirt and loved telling anyone who asked all about the series and why I enjoyed it).
Also, what people say about you in private in none of your business, neither is it your problem. It is their problem and, if they have nothing better to talk about than what t-shirt you are wearing, that says much more about them than it does about you.
Buy your t-shirt, wear it with pride and enjoy it. Our of respect for your wife, don't wear it when you are going somewhere with her.

I think it really all depends on WHERE you wear it. And what you normally wear.
I can tell you this, I wouldn't tell my husband to wear. He can wear whatever he wants but if we are going out in public I too would be embarrassed of him wearing a "TV biker-gang" leather vest. Or assless chaps. I would suck it up though. Same if he wanted to wear a MAGA hat or Capt. America T-shirt. I'd honestly, cringe, but that is about it.
I think you are OLD enough to decide what you want to wear, but maybe also be aware of whether it's appropriate attire. And... IF you know your wife hate that vest, why not avoid wearing it around her?
You like it, that is YOUR personal taste, she doesn't - that is hers.

Wear it with confidence. Draw other people's attention to it. Be proud of it. Most people don't even notice what others are wearing. If they don't like it? Fine, you are not asking them to wear it. Your wife worries too much about other people's opinions. She needs to grow up.

Well, I guess that's the point… I don't know any adult male in your age range- none at all- who would even consider wearing a Spiderman or a Superman shirt. Unless it's Halloween.
Then again, Italy is notoriously fastidious about how to dress . Perhaps Australia has a more casual , laidback dress code and the sight of a Spiderman shirt on a man in his 40s lacks the high "ick ! " factor which it would surely have here .
Then, I don't know the Sons of Anarchy show so I can't really say if the " Ick ! " factor would be the same as for a superhero t-shirt, or much less, or none at all.
Speaking in general, I think you should wear the garments you like, and in which you feel good and are comfortable. But with a proviso : if you care about people ' s judgement, and you fear being thought of as ridicolous or inappropriate-then don't . Keep your choices restricted to more mainstream stuff which would probably meet the majority's approval.
In other words : of course you are free to wear whatever you want. Same as people are free to disapprove of your clothing choices, and find them ridicolous, eccentric or gross.
If you don't give a hoot about what people think, then go ahead and dress like whatever you want, be it Sons of Anarchy or Mikey Mouse.
If instead you need or like that the way you look meets the majority's approval, then you'd better select your stuff carefully and avoid stuff which is very different from what most people your age wear.

If you like the vest and want to wear it, it should not matter what anybody else thinks, just what you think.
I don't think people would make fun of you in secret, its a Sons of Anarchy vest, not an all in one clown suit.
Wear it, and go out and enjoy it.
