Does anyone know what could possibly be a cause. Like this morning at 4am eastern time his nose gushed blood for about 45 min. before letting up. and then he was spitting up clots of black blood the size of a quarter. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. it started when he was asleep this morning, but it bleeds like that often. i disagree with the doctors, but i was wondering if anyone else ever has that problem and if so what do you or your doctors do. thanks in advance Reply to this Question Share |

you could go as far for looking for a childrens hospital, and just giving them a call. just explain the situation you have at hand. it could even be in a differant state. jusf as long as you get the right answer. i swear some doctors are the stupidist.

OMG i could not even believe she said that. she didn't do xRay of sinuses or even draw blood what kind of idiot was she. he had a cough and she said just give him robitussin for the cough and some nasal spray from the store and spray in his nose when it bleeds. so on wed. i am taking him to the ent and get him checked because his nose is not normal to be bleeding like this. i thank everyone for there time to respond to my question.

They would come in the middle of the night, the middle of the day just whenever. They where very bad and I even had to go to the hospital to get one to stop bleeding once. First off, DO NOT beleive the myth of "putting your head back" or "lying down", this only provides a seperate route for the blood to travel and freely flow (down the throat and into the stumach). A path to freely flow will not allow proper clotting and makes the nose bleed longer. Your child needs to sit up straight, pinch the bottom of the nose closed and apply pressure to the top portion of the nose almost just between the eyes. the pressure needs to be in a pinching type fashion on the sides. the goal is to close the veins in that area to help allow time for clotting. After a bleed, make sure he gets plenty of rest so it does not start up again. Hot weather or dry weather are particulalry bad to. I used to apply a very thin layer to the upper inside portion of my nose during dry weather at bed time. Applying an ice pack to the back of the neck durring a bleed may also be helpful. Learn how to properly stop the bleed and if it is nothing serious, he should eventually grow out of it. I am now 35 and I can't even remember the last time I had a bloody nose. But until like 13 or 14 I had some really bad bleeds. I mean like a faucet was running. But I grew out of it. Be sure there are no other health concerns causing this though. Good luck my friend.
