My period still hasn't shown up, could I be pregnant?

A female Ireland age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I've been on the pill since August (microlite) and sometimes me and my boyfriend don't use condoms. Normally he doesn't cum inside me (I know it's not a proper method of contraception) but my period's late now =(

Usually my seven day break starts on a Monday and I get my period on the Wednesday but it's Thursday now and it's still a no show! I never forget to take the pill and it's always around the same time every day. Could I be pregnant?

k_c100 agony auntWell if you have been taking your pill properly since August the chances of you being pregnant are pretty slim so try not to worry just yet.

When you are on your 7 day break it can take anywhere from 2-7 days for your period to show up, and its only been 3 so far so it is a bit early to worry. Sometimes the body's natural rhythm just gets disturbed for no apparent reason and your period may come a few days early or a few days late. It is totally normal and not anything to be worried about.

If you still have not had your period by next Monday then that is when you need to take a pregnancy test and make an appointment with the doctor. Even if you take the test and its negative, you still need to see a doctor because skipping your periods is something that needs to be investigated.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Well, the purpose of the pill is to prevent pregnancy and I'm sure it's been taken into account that, in most cases, a condom won't be used and the man IS going to cum inside of you.

If you've been taking the pill daily and haven't skipped any by accident, you should be fine.

Personally I haven't used the pill you're talking about, so I don't know how effective it is. Different pills work differently for different people.

I think maybe you should get a pregnancy test just to find out and put your mind at ease, but it's unlikely you're pregnant.
