tennisstar88 agony auntBlech, my husband used to smoke. It was like kissing an ashtray!

As the other poster stated, 13-15 is way too young to be smoking. (I'm hoping only cigarettes and not weed) I don't know the legal age to buy cigarettes in the UK but in America it's 18. Of course your parents aren't going to want you dating him because he's breaking the law!! You're a minor who lives under their roof so it's their call.

Well if he loves you then he'll quit smoking for you, right? Ask him to knock his nasty habit.

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 June 2011):

As i can see, you and your boyfriend are 13-15 years old. That is very young for a boy to be smoking...

Anyway, you could have a heart-to-heart talk with him. Tell him that your parents don't approve, and you don't want to keep ya'll relationship a secret. So, ask him if its possible if he can quit. Hes so young, and i'm sure he hasnt been smoking long...so it won't be too hard. And if he loves you as much as you say he does, then...whats so hard?

Another option is...tell your parent's that he quit, and tell him he can't smoke around you or your parents. I don't want to advise this, b/c it is lying to your parents...but if you really love him, and he can't honestly quit for you...i guess...you might have to go down this road.

Don't let him talk to your parents. Hes going to make a full of himself, and your parents aren't going to change their minds. So, he might as well just quit, and get over it.

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (6 June 2011):

The Realist agony auntWhy don't you say to him that you don't want to date a smoker and see if he quits. Usually you don't want to try to change the person you are are going to date but it would be the best thing for him.

I doubt even if you did get together that you would want to kiss him after he has been smoking. Chances are him talking with your parents won't help unless it is him explaining that he has quit.
