Question - (26 June 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 27 June 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Tonight, before her going to bed, my mum accused me of flirting with her 55 year old male friend when he came over to dinner. She was drunk and called me a bitch and overall was completely irrational. I find it disturbing, disgusting and upsetting that she could think THAT of her own 16 year old DAUGHTER. I was polite and made conversation with him, and would NEVER intend to do ANY such disgusting this as to what she proposed i did.

She said to me quote ' young people today are so stupid, all they want is attention'. I find it sad that she could think this of her daughter and thank you very much i get plenty of attention from my OWN age group, i would never flirt purposly as she thinks i did with a man of that age, god.

What do i do? What do you think of the situation?

Please give me tips, i am so confused and hurt and have been crying for hours, she was acting wierd and truly hurt me.

Stephen Stewart Nixon agony auntThis isn't a very nice thing for a young girl to have to cope with. If it is any consolation your mother was acting out of insecurity which mixed with the alcohol caused her to be so rude and hurtful. Perhaps the man wasn't paying her enough attention or perhaps she is not feeling as attractive as she once did. It's unfortunate but not uncommon for older women to feel insecure about their physicality. Just remember that people can react in a nasty way when they feel threatened even if the threat is unintentional. I'm sure she will feel really bad about it once she sobers up. Next time stay clear of the situation. Good luck

rcn agony auntI agree with the other poster. What I would like to know, if you could reply, is how your mom is when she's not drunk and how is your overall relationship with her?
