writes: im an 18 year old girl and over the past 2 years i feel like there is something wrong with me, my moods switch all the time, one minute im hyper and energetic and happy, the next i switch into a really miserable mood when i feel like shutting down and not talking to anyone i feel tearful and down , i even try to cause arguments with my partner, even he is fed up with my moods, he dont understand why i switch so much...he said i change alot.sometimes im so hyper and talk way too fast that people dont understand a word im saying, i feel like these moods are ruining me and just wanted to know if you know what could be wrong with me? reader, anonymous, writes (26 March 2010): same as me, could simply be hormones, there is really no need to assume its more, however if you like me.. paranoid as hell, violent mood swings or if you have suicidal or homicidal faughts contact a doctor who specialises in areas such as bipolor disorder and schizophrenia because your at the age just like me where paranoid schizophrenia starts to show.. but for you i highly doubt its anything more than hormones..

reader, anonymous, writes (26 March 2010): Yes I think what you are describing is something that needs to be medically treated, this doesn't sound like normal hormonal teenage mood swings but perhaps depression or another chemical imbalance in the brain.
I don't mean to scare you, but the sooner you see a doctor for a diagnosis the better because it will be a better outcome if caught and treated early. There is no reason to live in such a turmoil when there is help out there.
I would make an appointment with a good Psychiatrist or even child psychiatrist, if you insurance requires a referral from your physician, then make an appointment with your GP as all are trained now in psychological medications and treatment. Be very specific about your symptoms and ask your doctor for a referral, even some talk therapy may be needed to get you better.
