My heart wants to work this through but my mind tells me different... Help!

Question - (29 April 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 29 April 2009)
A female United States age , *leckes writes:

My boyfriend of almost 3 months cheated on me. I found this out recently when his 'girlfriend' called me after an apparent argument they had and tattle-taled on their affair. I was crushed! He admitted to their relationship, (supposedly an old flame) apologized for hurting me, and vowed it would never happen again.

We seemed to be very compatible. With open communication, no major disagreements, and great chemistry, we both talked about this being our last relationship (we are in our mid 50's) and the possibility of spending our lives together.

My heart wants to work this through, but my mind tells me that if he can't be faithful as a boyfriend after only 2 months of bliss, how can I trust him with my heart for the next 20 years when the real storms arise? What should this girl do?
