I had been losing hair around my temples for a few years but nothing to bad and nothing I couldn't hide easily. In March of 2011 I received some life changing news (of which I won't discuss) that basically put me in both physical and emotional shock.Shortly afterwards I went on anti-depressants and within a month I started losing a lot of hair. It was depressing seeing my hair falling off in the shower in big numbers. Somehow, I could still manage to cover it up and make it look normal.I stopped taking the anti-depressants in Sept and my hair loss seemed to go down drastically, I had read that what I lost was supposed to grow back but I'm not sure if it did or not. I wanted to try and get some of my receding hairline back so I started using rogaine foam in Dec of last year. It was going great until about 3 weeks ago when I started losing a ton of hair. I do have regrowth where I'm applying it on my temples but my hair in front is so thin now its easy to see my scalp. In three weeks it changed so fast. I know they say to wait out the shed but is it normal for the shed to begin three months in???My confidence is so up and down right now and it seems to be based on how my hair looks, so any support would be appreciated.

Hiyaaaa,
Firstly don't worry and don't panick! The more you worry the more your hair is gonna fall out coz of hormone inbalance.
Secondly, (nerd alert) your suppose to shed about 40-100 hair a day apparently.
So chillax! There are many ways to deal with hair loss.
3 years ago my Indian friend suggested to use this Indian coconut oil called Vatika is amazing it helps nourishes hair and enhance growth of it. If you can't find it use some mustard oil or black sesame oil that works too.
Long hair, blow drying and fiddling with hair can cause hair lost so try not to use a hair dryer and if you have long hair cut it short so that your hair has less weight.
A great way to deal with hair loss is actually changing your diet so eat more omega 3 or take fish oils tablets, eat more vitamin B and vitamin E as that can help prevent hair lost.
Another thing is that you take antidepressants I'm not sure if that contributed to your hair loss too but every drugs has side effect so I strongly recommended you eat serotonin food (food that makes you happy) so that you don't have to take antidepressants which could be the reasoning behind hair loss.
If it doesn't get better or you want faster action go to the doctors and they will help you. Don't worry just take it step by step and you'll get good results!
Hope my advice helps!
Good luck!
Lots of love,
Ima FreAk!

Talk to your doctor find out what's going on and what you can do about it. Also ask your doctor can your barber cut all your hair completely off. The complete bald head can be quite sexy...especially if you have your facial hair trimmed and neatly done. It's a new look you'll get used to in time. Just make sure you discuss everything including the anti depressants to your doctor....let him know your concerns.

I would suggest you talk to your doctor. There are many reasons for hair loss and not all of them result in baldness ( genetic aside).
There are various product that might help you, but they are by prescription only, like PROPECIA.
