 That's always tough. Speak to him, express your concern, and of course listen to what he wants. It's not always a ticket to doom if two friends get together. You never know, he may just be the one. If you worry don't live than you miss living.

 perhaps the best thing is to speak to your friend. just ask him if you have misread the situation or if indeed he does like you.
if he has a tendancy to kiss you, on the lips, i'd imagine the chances are quite high.
just go for it, i'm sure your relationship won't be affected.
