writes: I'm 18 years old and my girlfriend, who is also 18, just told me she's a week late. Does this mean she's pregnant? I'm not sure because she was a virgin and by having sex doesn't that throw off the menstruation cycle? Please help.

the first time i had sex my period was a week late. the next month it was 11 days late. so stay calm, having sex does usually throw off a woman's cycle. it would be wise to get a pregnancy test, you can find some that are only $3 and very accurate. i would not wait to long after a week for her to take a test though.

Well sex tends to throw off the menstruation cycle when a woman gets pregnant, yes ... but apart from that, no. It's too late for contraception this time - yes you can get pregnant the first time - but hopefully this will just be a scare. Get a pregnancy test and take it from there. And in future, use contraception. Good luck.

 When I first lost my virginity.. I came on my period within 3 days and the bleeding stopped after 3-4 days. Then I came on again after two weeks.. So the first time did mess up my menstrual cycle for a while.. If your that worried try a HPT (Home pregnancy test) to make sure or go and see a GP for a more accurate test.
