writes: hi, im 16 and all my guy friends say to dump my gf (of 7 months) i love her to bits and see us together for a long time. is this because guys my age are commitment phobes? or dont we care at this age? i certainly do, but i am more mature than most guys my age. all my mates seem to talk girls down, treat their gfs badly and all have short traumatic relationships. my girl friends on the other hand congratulate me and her blah blah and encourage us, and her friends are very pro boyfriend.is the a generic problem in society? reader, anonymous, writes (21 December 2009): respectfully, who's life are you living? that's really the only question you need to ask yourself to know what to do. you need to do what is right for YOU, not your friends. if you are in a mutually healthy relationship that feels right for you, then by all means, stay in it happily.
it's unfortunate so many young men allow their life to be dictated by their penis. you have obviously realized there is more to life then "bangin as many girls as you can".

Don't listen to your friends! I think at the age of 17 they luck the experience and maturity it takes to give someone such an important advice to dump his girl. If you are happy and love her that's good enough reason to be with her. End of story, simple answer. Best of luck!

It's more likely they're jealous. Stick with your great girlfriend and tell your friends to mind their own business. Be a good guy, not a bad one.
