In 2000 I began coughing up bright red, frothy blood for no apparent reason. I was admitted to Hospital and subjected to all types of testing. The investigations drew a blank and I was scheduled to have a bronchoscopy (a camera into my lugs) as a last ditch attempt at trying to find a cause. I was anethetised and taken to the theatre. I was expecting nothing but a routine procedure.... little did I know! When I awoke I was connected to every machine thinkable in intensive care. They had removed 1/3 of my right lung... they were unable to stem the bleeding when the camera entered my lung and had to perform an emergency operation.
Your friend is playing Russian Roulette! It may be totally innocent but they will never know unless they seek medical advice.
My story is a little on the grim side but I hope it helps.
Good luck.

Coughing up blood can be for a number of reasons, some which are very serious. You are righ to be concerned.
Either tell her parents (she will forgive you eventually!) or use the old emotional blackmail technique, (i usually wouldnt recomment this but desperate measures!)
e.g.'Please go,even if its just for me, Im worried about you'
Hopefully she'll see sense and get herself checked out. Let us know what happens
Good luck
