I am so fed up of suffering with acne since my early teenage life....over the years I have tried so much-just about everything to get rid of it but nothing ever works!

Firstly I am NOT stressed, I am a happy person and enjoy life. I do alot of meditation, yoga, pilates etc.

I eat very very healthily, I do not have food high in sugar, fat, greasy stuff, chocolate, tea, coffee, fizzy drinks etc.....my diet consists of alot of fresh fruit, vegetables etc...and I drink heaps of water every day. I dont smoke nor drink. Recently I have tried to cut out diary products and wheat from my diet to see if it helps...but to no avail..

I have tried a few different birth pills over the years to see if it could help but never made a difference. I have now completely come off the pill but still the spots come.

In the past when I could afford it I would have regular facials but again no use.

I have seen many many many doctors, dermatologists who have prescribed various lotions, pills, creams etc none of which ever helped.

I have tried various over the counter stuff also....just about most that there are out there, acne facial wash, creams, lotions, cleansers etc....but again always the same...no difference.

I have even tried the old wives tale stuff like toothpaste, mixing up various sorts of masks etc but agan nothing!

I do not use foundations, powders etc but little things like lipstick , mascara...if I go out I still make sure and cleanse my face with wipes every time I get back home.

I tried doing montly detoxes to get toxins out of my body but again no use.

Now before people start saying I am doing too mcuh things....or all those things are too harsh etc.....please bear in mind these are things I may have tried for periods over the course of many years....not necessarily all at once!!....anyway I mean it is a case of trial and error until something works!....some of the things such as yoga, diet, detox etc I have adapted to my lifestyle now as it is healthy...

Anyway can anyone help me pleasseeee! As you can see I have tried just abotu EVERY SINGLE THING possible! Nothing works! As soon as one goes down another one comes up and they are very very big and painful not to mention the scarring they leave on my face!

Did your dermatologist not tell you about Roaccutane? This is some seriously powerful medication with some pretty severe side effects.

I found it extremely successful, I had quite bad acne as a teenager but a few weeks/months after using Roaccutane it had entirely cleared up and I've never had any acne whatsoever since. Google Roaccutane, and get referred to a Dermatologist and ask them about it.

I have had acne since my thirties and I also had a case that was pretty incurable, as I have gotten older much older the acne has subsided. The things that worked for me was acutane used regularly for about two years in a row, there is a greater than 50% chance that after the course of treatment it will make you acne free for about a year....has some uncomfortable side effects like achey bones, and very dry skin on feet hands and elbows, but it gets rid of all the oil plugs in your skin.

Expensive and causes mild peeling Retin A microgel a perscription, has to be used every day consistently does a great job of keeping skin relatively clear, makes you sun sensitive so a good sunscreen containing some zinc oxide is necessary, there are some very good sunscreens that don't clog pores, ask your dermatologist.

Oral antibiotics, Bactrim and Minocycline are the two most effective in my experience.

Low estrogen birth control pills really can help monthly breakouts.

Not over washing the skin and using mild cleansers to wash your face. I really like a foaming cleanser by Aveeno (Johnson & Johnson in the US) called Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Foaming Cleaser with salicylic acid blemish treatment, helps prevent breakouts and controls blackheads quite well without irritating or overdrying the skin. Benzocline gel is a benzoyl peroxide gel perscription grade is great on clearing up active pimples....you have to prevent for one, and you have to treat existing pimples as well and they are different treatments. I got all of this from a dermatoligist it is a lot of stuff to fight acne, but it all works better than doing nothing or the home remedies you are experimenting with. You have to stick with the doctor's regimine for awhile to get results.....

I feel for you, I know how hard it is to deal with and it can really get you down, but there is hope, there isn't really a cure, but you can keep your skin looking it's best with the help of a good doctor, so go see one and stick with it.

Good Luck.

Danielepew agony auntI didn't have acne until I was sixteen, and then I had the same problem you described. Nothing works in cases like yours and mine :-). Time does, however. I got rid of most of my acne (I still get it once in a while) by washing my face very frequently with a sponge, one that wouldn't tear my face to pieces but would scrub anyways. "Buff-Puff", they were called in English. Over time, that worked, and, though I couldn't get rid of acne, it's simply not a serious problem anymore.

The matter with you might be the same as with me: your pores are small and they get easily clogged. No doctor or treatment can change that. All you can do is try to keep them without obstructions.

Go back to your doctor and ask to see a dermatologist. You need to stay in regular contact and follow out their prescriptions to the letter. They are the professionals and they are the only people that can solve this problem for you. You should also try to keep a diary, to see when the acne is worse, and if anything aggrevates the condition. Your self-help remedies are probably making things worse. Go back to see the dermatologist and tell them things are getting worse.

sarah_s agony auntThe only solution I should recommened and suggest is a 'facial centre' done by a professional of course but, the price is quite high but, to say from experience (because, I suffered from acne condition as well) was worth it and my skin feels better then ever.

Mine was set up to £106.00 which includes the skin care set which they give you to exfoliate dailey. If you can find the nearest and wise facial centre from your location I would give them a try. Talk to them first on the process and they should give you a lefleat on what they treat much of any skin condition.

Best wishes. Sarah.
