I'm a mid forties woman and I have gotten to the point where I don't like to go out where people will be drinking. I won't go to concerts. I dread the fair, theme parks or any activity involving children and food.
One thing that has helped me is to explain to one very close friend about my fear and she looks out for me. She helps me keep an eye on who looks green, who is burping waaay too much and who should have stopped drinking 3 hours ago. Having someone on my side makes me feel less paranoid.

The crazy thing is that I am a Psychology major, and I still have this phobia! If it was that easy to just get over it, I would hsve done it by now. I have it so bad that I think I will die if I am in the same house as someone that vomits! I just discovered a treatment called systematic desensitization. I am going to find a therapist to help me next week. My son just got over strep throat which caused him to vomit and I had to have my father-in-law pick him up from school and take him to their house, because I was too afraid to have him home. I need to be able to take care of my family. This is destroying my life. My worst fear is that my son will get a stomack virus and while my husband takes care of him, he will get it too. Then what would I do?

I can remember like it was yesterday the last time I did though, which is really weird. And every time a family member is sick I start like studying things they do watch they're every movement and constantly ask them if they're ok. Usually if I'm pretty sure someone is going to be sick I turn on a fan in my room or keep my cd player next to my bed just in case I am woken up in the middle of the night.

I think you have done really well for addresing your fear. You are not alone. Perhaps you could ask your doctor or school nurse if you could talk to someone.

For one thing, 14 is way young to be downing alcohol!! It not only makes one look like a fool but it is also dangerous. You could get alcohol poisoning which can be fatal in young teens!!
I used to feel the same way about throwing up. I couldn't even look at others sick...because it would make me sick, too! It bothered me so much, that I would avoid people who were sick. It would just send shivers down my back to see or hear someone throwing up!!!
Well, that was then....and I adventually grew out of that fear. I think it's because i started to think that it is part of life, and everyone goes through it!! It is your body getting rid of toxins and poisons (allergies to foods, over-dose of alcohol, pills, ect)
So I hope that you will over-come your fear of vomiting...but please you're only 14 and need to drink non-alcoholic beverages until you get alot older!!
Love and Hugs!!

hey there,
i think a key way of getting out of being ill due to drinking is to simply controll how much you drink, dont sown a bottle of vodka, have limits and dont go overboad. Your need to check if everyone is ok, sounds like your a very good friend. i wouldnt dwell on the vommiting to much other wise you become obsesswith the whole concept, enjoy your childhood before you start worrying about the problems of the future.
Good luck Xx : D

You're what? 14?
First off, I would NOT suggest clubbing and drinking at that age! It's illegal, AND UNSAFE.
Now on to vomit. x_X
A friend of a friend of mine suffers the same. She is terrified of throwing up, of others being sick and will go to extreme lengths to prevent it. But dear, you must understand that sickness happens, and often if you go out of your way to prevent it, you won't build up a strong enough immune system to fight off other diseases and illness. Sometimes it's a GOOD thing to be sick, like chicken pox - it's better to have it when you're young because when you're older it can KILL you. And when chicken pox is over and done with, your body has built up a 'memory' of that virus so that you won't get sick with it again! Cool huh?
Do you think it would be better to feel sick for a couple days and then be over it, than be constantly terrified of BEING sick for years?
