Ciar agony auntThe symptoms you're describing are also consistent with the flu. It's premature to assume that he's got something serious that requires medical attention.

If his 'stubbornness' is borne of fear then nagging him or trying to terrorise him into visiting a doctor will backfire. Besides, if he's that ill, he naturally doesn't feel like going out to sit for hours in some waiting room.

sounds like flu the best thing you can do is give him some paracetamol and lots of fluids no tea/ coffee of alcohol. ^

I know candid cally is saying its a side affect to coming of certain drugs but that is not always the case if he is also suffering from server cramps all over his body then yes it could be withdrawal symptoms and he needs to see a doctor.

You can always make the appointment for him and take him to the doctor.

Does he use or abuse medications containing opiates or benzodiazepines? The symptoms you are describing can occur when someone abruptly stops taking these types of medications.
