So should I confront him about this or wait until he decides to tell me?

Confront him and then dump his sorry ass! You dont want to be with a guy who is only with you out of pity, so you should just get out of the relationship and find someone who really wants to be with you!
He will realise what he's lost when your gone, but that's his problem not yours! Its not fair for him to be even talking about your relationship to your friends like that, he is showing no respect for you and he doesnt deserve you!
This is not the sort of guy you want to be with, get rid of him and move on! You can do so much better!
I hope this helps and good luck!

The relationship between you will be noticeably different now anyway, because I think his words will always be in the back of your mind when you are with him. If he tries to kiss you, will you be thinking to yourself, "He's pretending..."? Probably you will be. And he will notice something different about you.
So one way or another, I think it will come out. But for your peace of mind, I would suggest telling him what you heard, and see where things go from there. Good luck. x
