ok, to me this isn't a good sign. You need to ask him why he said that to begin with. Why would he say something like that? maybe he was testing her? like maybe he thinks that maybe she has a little crush on him or somthing. If I were you I would just keep asking him questions until you get the whole story straight. Dont go over board with him, but I would be concerned. If he gives you a indirect answer ( like if he keeps saying that he doesn't fancy her or he keeps saying he loves you ) then ask him why he wont tell you the truth.
