My best friend or her brother?

A female United States age 26-29, *-Mae-C writes:

My mom has recently found out who I like and he is my best friends brother. We argued over me staying the night at her house. I said nothing was gonna happen , but she thinks I'm gonna have sex or something like that. We argued for a really long time and finally she came to the conclusion that it's either him or her. How can I pick between my best friend and my crush? It's very impossible! He says if me or his closest friend were about to die he would pick me to save first. And I thought it was sweet. I think his sister got the idea I like him ,but I'm not sure. And I'm not sure if I should go ' bros before hoes' or what? She is the bestest friend I could ever ask for and oh he is just the sweetest guy ever! Except one thing makes him imperfect ; he is self destructive . I told him it's not good or healthy , but idk if he stopped hurting himself or not.

I know I rambled on about him but I really need to know which one I should pick ...my best friend or the guy who may be the one.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (3 September 2010):

Choose both. I had a crush on my "sister's" (we were very close, not literal siblings), and i really liked her real sister. I just walked up to her in the caffiteria during lunch and told her that i liked her sister, and all she said was "you should ask her out then, thanks for coming to me first jesse." She'll understand, and if not then dont date him or you'll lose both. Good luck =)

A female reader, _Katy_Did_ United States +, writes (1 September 2010):

_Katy_Did_ agony auntWell for one, i think your mom is being very unfair. And two, if you HAVE to make a choice, choose your best friend. At this young of an age, the chances that your relationship with this guy lasting over a few months is very slim. Plus a split between you and this guy could cause issues with you and your best friend down the road(considering he is her brother).

Hope that helped.

Katy.
