writes: This started yesterday. My best friend slept over at my house. We were just lying around and he just started acting weird (e.g. staring at me). Then he said something really weird, he's like, "You know I love you, right?" I wasn't sure how to reply so I just nodded my head.Then today, he's been a bit over protective. I'm not sure if he's joking or not. For example, one of my friends poked me and he flipped. He would hug me a lot longer too.

reader, anonymous, writes (3 December 2009): he's thinking more than friends and he thinks that he made it clear by saying 'you know i love you, right?" in his eyes when you nodded, he took it as confirmation that you feel the same. be clear about one thing here and that is guys do not communicate in the same manner as girls...so while you are trying to figure out what is going on, he thinks you are a couple. talk to him about it and take a hard look and decide if you are interested. also be clear that this friendship will never be the same regardless of the path you chose. goodluck, mal

If you don't like him back then you have to tell him NOW. Don't drag this out as you'll hurt him really badly.
Tell him how you feel and let him have time away from you to get over you.
