A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

how do i get over my first love? i've tried the usual things like losing contact with him, hanging out with my friends more, taking up new hobbies but it isnt working. I cant lose contact cause we was good friends. I still have feelings for him though, i dont think its love but there is something there that i still feel for him and it annoys me because he's moved on and been in love since.

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (3 May 2011):

The Realist agony auntThe best thing for you is time. As time passes you will realize that he wasn't the only one you will ever love. You will find someone else and although you will never forget about your first love it won't be so hard on you to move on. Keep trying to have fun with your life and trust in the fact that time will help.

It's very common to feel that way and I know it's not that you don't want him to be happy but you still feel like something is missing now that he has moved on and you haven't found anyone else. That fades with time as well but mostly goes away when you do have someone else.
