It depends on the type of depression, severity etc. I'd recommend against combining since alcohol is a depressant, and mixing a depressant with depression, medicated or not, can enhance depressive symptoms. So this is one of those "it depends" questions. I'd recommend asking a medical professional as well, and at the same time recommend against mixing meds. and drinking.

I'm not a doctor, and it sounds like professional medical advice is what you need. But -- from what I've heard, anti-depressants should only be taken when you're abstaining from alcohol. Alcohol is a depressive drug. Anti-depressants don't perform as advertised when you're still drinking. And yes, the combination can lead to rash decisions.
If alcohol is a problem and anti-depressants are indicated, it might be a good idea to add a prescription like Antabuse.
