A male United Kingdom age 30-35, Phsyciatrist-to-be writes:

About a year ago, when I was 14, a girl found out that I liked her. This goes back to almost four years ago; when I first met her, thoughts went buzzing to my brain: "she's beautiful... she's smart... she's cute... she's funny... she likes to laugh..." I honestly thought I was in love. Now of course, I know it was a silly crush thing: nothing special. I'd had them before.

Anyway, about a year ago, this girl realised how much I liked her. Or rather, her friend did.

I remember the day: Science lesson, 2:30pm. The girl I liked walks over to me, and asks to borrow a pencil.

"Hey, can I borrow a pencil?"

"Ummm... yeah sure." (retrieves spare)

"Thanks."

I remember watching her walk away, thinking about her.

Two minutes later, her friend bawls across the room:

"Hey! Do you fancy ******?"

"...What makes you think that?"

"Coz you're always nice to her and really horrible to everyone else." Well, that was wrong. I always tried to be nice to people. That girl was a lot more perceptive than she looked. My pause was enough proof she needed.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaay!!! **** fancies ******!!!"

And then the "flirting" started.

Notes would appear at my desk: messages from them or they claimed were from her. One was a picture depicting me and the girl as an old couple; another was a rather graphic drawing of her giving me a blowjob. But by far the most disturbing was a note they said was from her. I remember the words exactly:

"I love you. I love you and I want to know if you feel the same way."

Well, this was more confusing than anything else they'd done. After 5 minutes of hard thinking, I wrote back:

"I'm not sure."

They thought this was hilarious. She started joining in, making sure I saw her write the reply:

"What is that supposed to mean? Do you love me or not?"

I didnt bother writing back.

Other things followed: she come over and sat down next to me, talking dirty and asking me how i felt about her. Her loud-mouthed friend took a picture with her pretending to give me a peck on the cheek and me smiling in a weary and resigned sort of way, after they persuaded me to. Once, she walked behind me and felt my rear as she went by. That one had them rolling on the floor laughing.

Eventually it all died down, of course. They more or less stopped pestering me, aside from the occasional "Hey, do you still fancy ******?" to which I wearily reply "Yeah..." I dont like her at all, of course, but saying yes and letting them believe it, at the moment, is far safer than letting them know I like someone else now. This girl is all that I thought ****** was, and more. She's not a cow that would take complete advantage if she knew exactly how I felt. She wont tell the universe if I ask her out, or tell her I love her.

She's my friend.

And I love her.

And she's a damn site prettier than ****** too.
