writes: Kissing Cousins. I have read many questions on this site about cousins that are "in love". For some of these couples I really do believe that they love each other. But cousins are still your family. And cousins that are couples who are 1st cousins are way too close to being immediate family. Of course in some states it is illegal to marry your cousin. Like Minnesota. Other states it is illegal to marry your 1st cousin but some of these states allow 2nd cousin marriage. The only state that allows 1st cousin marriage if both of the partners undergo genectic counseling is Maine. The risk of 1st cousins having babies together are the same risks if a woman over 40 were to have a baby. They child could be born with birth defects. This is why cousins are not usually allowed to have children. States that allow cousin marriage are states such as California, Alaska, Alabama,Colorodo,Florida,Georgia, ect.  I have a kissing cousin. we HOOKED up before teens . then again, As High School teaching-Exploring partners.went our seperate ways married had kids. He lost his wife to "C" she was 30. he was 24. My husband offered him a room over the garage.  Well some people say 3rd cousins are family and some dont.
I guess that is a "to each their own" situation.
I personally dont recognise 2nd cousins as family as I really cant see how we would be genetically connected. They have teh genes from my uncle by marridge and i have the genes from my aunt. SO nither them or me are really the sme at all.
Have to admit though that on mums side i have 25 cousins and on dads 37, so i doubt id have time to add anyone else lol

 In Britain and Europe it is legal to marry your first cousin. In some Asian countries it's actually encouraged. Sure, there is a risk that your child will be disabled, about the same risk that a woman who is older and has a child will have.
There is a risk always in any pregnancy that your child will have a disability. But disability is not guaranteed, you also are at risk if you smoke, drink or take drugs when pregnant.
America is one of the few countries with laws against "kissing cousins".
