A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I’m 19 and I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time…my period came about the 6 of April and I think I was ovulating about the 22. My question is that I did bleed a bit and I still am but light. We used a condom (it did not break) and he pull out before Cumming. To be on the safe side after an hour I went to get plan B. what are the chances I can get pregnant? Can I get a pregnancy test done just to make sure am not pregnant.

Laura1318 agony auntYou are over reacting . You don't have to take Plan B .

Get a pregnancy test only if you miss your next period. Those pregnancy test kits that claim you can know before your period are unreliable.

Having a pregnancy test before your next due period is only a waste of your time and money. The result will be negative.

A male reader, PM Canada +, writes (24 April 2010):

PM agony auntIt's very unlikely. Condoms are above 90% effective and the morning-after pill is somewhere between 50% to 90% effective (depending on what study you read). Meaning, given the less than 10% chance that you were pregnant (much less than that actually because he did not orgasm inside you), that would be reduced by over 50% which puts you at a very low probability of being pregnant.

For your own peace of mind, you can get a test done to rule out the possibility of being pregnant. As it's your first time, it's normal to overreact somewhat to the possibility of being pregnant. It sounds, however, like you could benefit from being better educated about sexual matters. You may want to look up some sex ed websites or to talk to a doctor to get some more information.

A female reader, YouWish United States +, writes (24 April 2010):

YouWish agony auntI think you covered your bases. Your boyfriend pulled out AND wore a condom, and you took the plan B. The pill is good, but make sure you don't smoke and don't have high blood pressure. Pills can screw with a woman's hormones and make her feel like crap, so make sure!

A female reader, hpoco Switzerland +, writes (24 April 2010):

hpoco agony auntIf your last period was April 6th, you shouldn't be having another period yet, so the light bleeding is just mid-month bleeding, perhaps due to losing your virginity.

You took more precautions than necessary. If you are this freaked about getting pregnant, maybe you shouldn't be having sex.

Get on the pill. Don't take the morning after pill again unless you actually get sperm inside you. Its unnecessary to take it if you used a condom that did not break, and it will be awful for your body if you take it too often.

What do you mean, can you get a pregnancy test done? You can take a test any time you want. But, you should wait to see if your period will come first.

It is beyond unlikely that you are pregnant.

i'd personally say you are not pregnant but i'd get tested just to be certain and then go on oral birth control ASAP.
