SlightlyLost is verified as being by the original poster of the questionThank you so much for all of your help!
They ripped on the inner leg and I tried to sew them up but it didn't hold. I had a rumage in the back of my closet and found a serviciable dress which I can wear with a cardigian. As Hugh.J suggested I will explain the situation.
Many thanks again!

As long as you look smart, hair tidy, shoes clean, not loads of make-up or jewellry, and smile.Homebase isn't a 'posh' shop or like ,say Top Shop so you don't have to look ultra trendy.Just clean and fresh
Good luck x

Khakis are best. Otherwise do you have any structured knee length skirts you can wear with a button down top?

Well could you go to a charity shop in time and pick up a really cheap pair of trousers? Failing that, what about that stuff you iron in to 'hem' trousers, wonder web or something? Iron it on the inside? Or could you sellotape it from the inside? Or like Hugh.J said sew them?
Could some of your friends from your old home town borrow you a pair (drive up to see you?)
Do you not have a skirt or any other possible trousers to wear? Even a smart pair of black jeans?

Do you have some nice khaki or some really dark washed jeans?

Can you sew?
Explain your situation to your interviewer, he/she will surely be sympathetic.
