We choose our lives through our actions, even if we don't realize it. karma does not come from some equestrial being evaluating our actions and issuing just punishment/reward. We make karma just like we make luck. It can be hard to see at times, but that is life. They have earned this for themselves.

There is a universal law or Karma.Whether you believed it or not, it does not matter but it exist.
Everything comes back in a full circle. If you do wrong , you will get your just punishment.
You will reap what you sowed.

I tend to make alot of jokes to my friends about karma but I don't know if I truely believe in it. I think it is more based on the fact that those people were will to take risks to steal so eventually you will take a risk and end up with the concequences.
Thats just the straight logic explaination but I do like to think that somewhere down the line bad people will have bad things happen to them and good actions will have some sort of future reward.
