We're continents apart and whenever he writes or I write back, he addresses me like so:Dear Miss/Mrs.Name...he insists on using this weird format, although he's a native English speaker and we always send very informal e-mails and such...He insists on using a title even if jokingly before my name. Does this way of writing to a friend sounds the norm to you? Is he trying to know whether I'm still single or not, but not directly asking or what? Thanks for taking the time to read what may seem a silly question! :) Reply to this Question Share |

Why don't you do the same back to him ("Dear Mr."), and see what his reaction is.

Honestly, I have no idea. It could be that, or it could be just a sort of in-running joke, or it could be that he's overly polite. Perhaps the best thing to do is ask him? He's the only one who will know.
