What that says to me is that he is not himself either when he is with you or with his friends. I wouldn't put up with it and would most likely call him out on it, then expect the relationship to end.
His friends may not like you very much and he isn't willing to put up with their comments so he pretends to not like you when they are around.
It is definitely a red flag for something that you shouldn't have to deal with.
