Condom = only protection against chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV/AIDS. You are 16 or 17 so I presume you aren't about to get married. Who knows where the partner has been and with whom. He might even think he's clean but actually be carrying a penis full of the clap just waiting to infest your vagina. Use a condom, lady. STD's are humiliating and sometimes fatal.

There are many alternatives but the only one to protect you from disease is condom.. the sponge is available and handy.. there are inserts that will prevent pregnancy but the only one to protect you from aids, and stds... condoms.. my heartfelt and firm advice.. if you are going to be sexually active... USE THE CONDOM.. Herpes is forever.. and aids?? makes forever shorter.. dont take chances..

Hi,
The only other barrier method is a femidom. It's like a condom, but for the inside of your vagina (I'm not sure if they are still available, or how easy it is to find them). The importance of a barrier method is that it is the ONLY method that prevents the transmission of HIV. It's something that everyone should consider using until they are in a serious, committed relationship. Men don't necessarily like using condoms and say that they diminish sensation, BUT this is a story that is as old as the hills. There are a number of diseases that men can carry without even being aware of because they remain symptom-free, but if you sleep with someone who is sexually active and unaware of what he may have contracted, you'll pick it up from him. No Glove, No Love is a good policy. Play Safe!
