Hi,

I'm 14 and i recently started getting "wet dreams" - it's quite annoying and how to stop it ? Also , sometimes i wake up after one, I clean the semen with a tissue and flush it down the toilet.. can someone get pregnant if they use the toilet straight after ?

I know this sounds crazy, but please help. Also, is it ok if i put my wet undies in washing machine with other people's clothes? How to make sure the sperms are dead? Please help.

One way that I found effective for me was by taking St. Johns Worts. Now since St. Johns Wort is known for healing depression, I don't know how it will react with minors. I highly recommend you talk to your doctor (preferably a psychologist or psychiatrist) before taking any medication that alters mood. The down side for me was, St. Johns Worts not only stopped wet dreams, but (sigh) I literally lost libido as well as having delayed ejaculation. That seriously caused grief during sex and after careful research, I came across DHEA and that alleviated the symptom. At this time, I'm also taking zinc (highly recommend for men of all ages by the way) and tribulus. Overall, I'm back to normal now without periodic wet dreams. I would still talk to a psychologist prior to taking any medication. The other thing is, not all brands are created the same so be sure to buy from a trusted brand.

A male reader, IamAnonymous India +, writes (31 March 2011):

Its well normal to have wet dreams in a limit during your teenage. But its very good if you seriously wanna stop them; after all they do harm because the semen makes you strong and virile. Its my advice, rather a request, please dont try the "hand practice" or anything like that to stop your wet dreams. Its gonna harm you greatly in long term if you once start it and couldn't stop them in time which is very likely.

To stop wet dreams try following:

1.)Don't drink hot milk or hot water before going to bed

2.)Don't have yogurt at night (I am not sure about this but I have a very strong doubt over it from one of my experiences)

3.)Eat "Gud" (Its a Hindi word, I dont know its English. Its a sweet sugarcane product; looks roughly reddish orange in colour. Its easily available in India but I dont know about other countries) along with groundnuts(better if baked)after your dinner or about half hour before sleeping(if there is too much gap between dinner and bed). The quantity should be about 20-30 groundnuts and approx. equal volume of the "Gud."

4.)If the problem is doing too much harm, seek medicinal aids under supervision (I know its the toughest solution).

dannabo agony auntYou may not be able to completely stop wet dreams because it is your body responding to your sexual needs. You certainly can reduce them by masturbating much more often. Wen I was 12 I began masturbating about twice every day. I never had a wet dream after that. Try jacking more often to avoid the nightly messes.

Wet dreams (nocturnal emissions) are natural for a boy of 14. The dream part is usually a pleasant enjoyable sexual episode. Enjoy them instead of wanting to stop them.

A reader, anonymous, writes (27 February 2008):

The only way I could think of to make them stop would be to masturbate. The male body is constantly producing semen and at some point it builds up and has to get rid of it. That's what I learned anyway.

A female reader, TasteofIndia United States +, writes (26 February 2008):

TasteofIndia agony auntHey there, sweetness.

Wet dreams are TOTALLY normal. I can't think of a way to stop them, except maybe setting your alarm a few times during the night so that your dreams are constantly interrupted... but, then you sacrifice a good nights sleep. So, I say just enjoy them and let your hormones get out of your system.

As for your semen, it only lasts for a few seconds in the air. Unless it gets inserted directly into (or onto, I suppose) a vagina, there is no risk of pregnancy. So, toss that tissue in the toilet and those undies in the washer... no ones going to be coming around with your babies in nine months.

No worries! You are growing up naturally and healthily.

Dr Vendetta agony aunt Devilish Angel : sorry but your info so totally off.

Sperm does not die instantly.

Outside the body, they can live for several hours if kept at body temperature. around 20 minutes - 1 hour in general condictions.

and unless your sperm are related to wild Red Salmon and can not only swim up river but have amazing projectial abalities. then i think you're fine.

as for wet dreams. never had one to be honest, feel i've been cheated there.

A female reader, Devilish Angel United States +, writes (26 February 2008):

Devilish Angel agony auntOnce the sperm leaves your penis and goes into the outside world, it dies almost instantly. No, if a female uses the toilet right after she will not get pregnant. No, there is no way to stop them. They'll go away on their own. You can wash your undies with everyone else's. The soap will clean everything.

Don't be embarrassed and just go with it. Things will calm down in your dreams once you're finished with puberty.

XOXO
