A female reader, SERENE South Africa +, writes (16 November 2006):

Hi there,

I really don't think that you are feeling love for your childhood friend. Love is a feeling that you cannot suppress, and had this been love you would have known ages ago. You most probably have a soft spot for him, since the both of you shared many childhood experiences as well as memories together. Please appreciate the way he feels about you, and be sensitive to his feelings without hurting him. If you are not going to start anything with him, then I suggest you, must be honest upfront and tell him you do not feel the same.
