Is it weird that the only thing I'm really concerned about is what my body will look like postpartum?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My fiance and I are both 21, been together for three years, we're both continuing our educations, and we're 2.5 months pregnant. I know we'll survive financially because we already have a few thousand saved up from working so much the last three years. He's also doing some major overtime for the next six months to make sure we have plenty more to work with when the day gets here. So, is it weird that the only thing I'm really concerned about is what my body will look like postpartum?

KlassyKirsty agony auntYour physical appearance is the initial worry that the majority of pregnant women in their early stages. If you are pretty adamant that you will survive financially, then money matters will obviously be the last thing on your mind :)

I do not want to pass any judgement, but pregnant women (post and pre) generally pinpoint this fear of appearance to them potentially losing their partners, which i can empathise due to the fact that one key factor to succesfully raising a child is in a stable relationship. Alot of single mothers that I know have coped well on their own and a good network of support, so bear this in mind if ever in doubt.

Just be careful that your education does not interfere with your childrearing and upbringing, best of luck with the pregnancy and your studies :) xx

Plexi agony auntNo hun, it's not weird because you are very young, but it would be best if you concentrated and concerned yourself more with the new baby that will be entering your life............things will be ok and your body won't change all that much because you are very young. Remember to eat well, during your pregnancy AND after and both you and your baby will greatly benefit. Try to stay away from pre packaged processed foods and eat lots of fresh, whole foods and drink plenty of water. I also recommend that pregnant and nursing mothers should supplement with omega 3 fatty acids for healthy neurological development of your child. On that note, breast feeding is not only free and provides your child with natures perfect food but it also helps you bond with your baby AND burns a ton of calories and also helps shrink your uterus after childbirth so try nursing for at least 6 monthes(1 year is ideal but that is up to you... It is completely normal to gain weight while pregnant because you want to give birth to a big healthy child that wont be underweight and thus more susceptible to getting sick. Please don't put yourself on a diet during this time like other women have done because you will end up with a very fragile underweight child.

Congratulations to you and your bf and yes you will be ok because you sound like a strong, smart girl!

HUGS:)
