writes:I read an article in Metro which said (although it was at Valentine's event for geeky Massachusetts Institute of Technology students) that menoften prefer to have sex with a woman of lower IQ. Do you think that's really true, because I know someone whose man spends all his time with her, but has sex with a lower IQ woman. He says he loves and adores her but she is slowly going mad. Is there any relationship between her possibly being smarter than him, and his cheating? Reply to this Question

But most us guys ( those of us with some brains that is ) prefer a smart girl.

 Hi. First understand a few aspects of the world we live in.
Small scale studies can say anything you want. There's almost one for every opinion.
Media organisations commission many of these "studies" just for something to write about. They pay anything from £2000 to £50,000 to fill pages. Cheaper than a "kiss n tell" exclusive.
Many of the studies are conducted by students in training. They are just learning about how to gather and represent data; the sublect matter/outcome is largely academic. But worse, many of the studies/surveys are conducted by the people from the magazine. They just go out on the street, or ask amongst the office. "In a recent poll many people confessed to having blah blah blah," ..........that's because they walked up the corridor and asked 16 people in admin/accounts the same question - so it's a poll.
I'm waiting for the the day they print "Investigation reveals 99% of the surveys we print are rubbish."

 I dont think I saw that in the Merto ( I commute daily!) and I would differ- One of my last girlfriends, although exceedingly nice and pleasent, was a complete airhead... at first it was okay.. but it got on my nerves very quickly! I have an above-average IQ (not to gloat) and I prefer a woman with the same.Some men are immasculated by women who ae better than them in some ways- Intelligence and strength come to mind.And in regards to previous responses: IQ is not a valid test anymore- Today, IQ really just means perceived intelligence (but not offically).

Yes it is true that some men are intimidated by a woman who is smarter then they are...but a lot of men....like myself want competive minds and smart women. I personally get frustrated when a woman is dumb and don't want anything to do with her, especially if she doesn't do anything to help empower herself. don't believe all the studies you read. There is a study out there that says giving 'head' or a blowjob is not sex, but I beg to differ. there is also a study that says men with big feet have big penis's, but I'm proof that that is not the case. There is also a study that says if you can't read and write that you will not ever be successful in life, but I have 4 friends who can only write their names and they are all very very rich from hard work. Studies are very important....they help us to calculate what the majority is thinking and doing, but how can you base a study on a limited number of applicants and participants? If they say "everyone loves the color pink" would that study be correct? NO! because 1000 people participated in that study and they like pink does not mean everyone likes pink. A study one time claimed that every man wants his dick sucked....well that too is not true! I know over 100 men who does not like or want this (I'm not one of them). Maybe some men are insecure and do not want a woman who is equal or more intellectually advanced as they are, but do not believe that all men want "dumb" women!

I read a similar article in Marie Claire, and while everyone likes to feel smart every now and again I dont think its true. It ultimately depends what you want out of a relationship ( a cute partner you can look after? a meeting of minds?), and obviously IQ isnt the only measure of being 'smart', but I'm going to say no on that question.

 Um I'm sure guys don't make girls take an IQ test to see whos smarter. If a girl very smart maybe that will scare a guy who dosen't match her in the brian stake but then they wouldn't be a match anyway.

 Real men want girls with brains. Assholes are the ones who want to date dumber girls so they can feel superior. Don't dumb yourself down for anybody - your brains will take you a lot farther than any ol' man can.
As for your friend - why is she wasting her time a guy who is sleeping with someone else? He's the dumb one here, not her. Cut that jerk loose!!

 I personally make all potential girlfriends have an IQ test to make sure they are below mine. Below 130 but above 80 so i dont feel like im taking advantage of someone.
No men dont go for girls with lower IQs than them, some intellectually insecure men might but im guessing the majority of us dont care how smart or dumb she may be

 If he's having sex with someone other than his girlfriend, she needs to cut him loose. IQ, to me makes not much difference, as long as it's not used as a tool against the other person. What I mean is, I'm smarter, so everything I say is correct, and you must be wrong so don't attempt to express your opinion.
To me IQ's make not much difference. IQ doesn't necessarily mean smart. If it did, she wouldn't be with someone who's cheating. It also doesn't mean lower IQ people are not smart in what they do and their accomplishments.
If I were her, I'd cut him loose. She needs someone who'll be there for her. High IQ or lack of, there is no excuse to cheat. She's being taken advantage of, and can do much better than what's she's getting from him.
