i think also that its because men like to see their woman while they are having sex it is a turn on for them. my boyfriend and i usually light some candles maybe you could try that.

Some guys are very visual. My husband sometimes likes it in front of a mirror -- I find it very distracting and keep my eyes closed when we do this. But we do it sometimes, because he likes it a lot.
Compromise: have it on half the time. Or maybe use dim lights. Or get a red light bulb (we used one of these when the baby was in our room so that we could see but not wake him up (not for sex, just to see, lol )); it gives off enough light to see but won't ruin the mood. Good luck.

Preferences vary, and I wonder if this is what most men would prefer. But, you know, I think he has a point: he wants to see you. We need visual stimulation. And, maybe he very much likes what he sees.
If you don't like this, maybe you can suggest dimming the lights.
