Hi I would like to seek some advice. My bf and I had intercourse for the first time. We're both virgins. But I did not bleed. I thought virgins are supposed to bleed on their first time. Is it normal?

I agree with everyone else, you are completely normal. When i was younger, i broke my hymen while doing other things sexually. Be glad because you can skip the mess and the awkwardness of cleaning up.

Yes you are normal! I didn't either! Like every else has said, activities such as horse-riding, tampons, etc may have already broken your hymen without you even knowing. So relax you are normal! :-)

So_Very_Confused agony auntI didn't. Many virgins don't. IF your hymen was not intact you probably won't bleed.

Hymens are fragile... many are destroyed when girls are young and doing things like climbing trees, running, horseback riding, bike riding or swimming... then there's the whole tampon use... or masturbation (or petting) using fingers or toys.... all of those things will destroy a hymen...

totty-flossy agony auntIts completely normal not to bleed! some girls do and some girls dont! I didnt bleed because i tore that little bit of skin when i was quite young due to me being a horse rider. Be thankful you didnt bleed :) less mess and makes the wole experience alot more enjoyable!! :) xx

A female reader, aunt honesty Ireland +, writes (17 June 2011):

aunt honesty agony auntLook everybody is different, some people bleed others dont. It doesnt mean that there is anything wrong with you. The bleed is usually caused by a little tear of the skin. But some girls tear this when they are younger without realising, maybe doing horse riding, or even riding a bike or using a tampon. So dont worry about not bleeding and count yourself lucky.
