Is it normal for a period to be late after starting on the pill?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

i started the pill at the beginning of this week as this was the week my doctor highlighted in my planner. i was due to get my period about the 10th/11th of this week and now its like 2-3 days later and there is no sign of it at all. is this normal for my period to skip right away when i begin using the pill or is it just really late. i hate the waiting part. im just unsure if i should still be expecting it to come late or if the hormones from the pill have kind of eliminated it this month. and if this is the case, is this normal and ok? is this safe?

thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond.

YummyMummy agony auntThe pill can mess up your period. Give it some time to begin to work properly and if you don't feel happy go see your doctor.

I was on the pill you took for so many days then had a week off where I would bleed. There are many different pills.

911help agony auntStarting the pill could definitely mess up your periods until your body gets used to it. Just remember until you get at least a month of birth control in your body, it doesn't take effect. Still use protection.

Hey, i started a pill few days ago myself. My doctor told me that the pill will most likely change my period and the time it comes. So, probably thats whats happening with you. However, just to be sure you can take a pregnancy test so you can get it of off your mind!
