Is chocolate syrup safe to use with condoms?

Tagged as: Sex<< Previous question   Next question >>
Question - (25 October 2014) 2 Answers - (Newest, 25 October 2014)
A male United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

For years I have used chocolate syrup on condoms to make them more palatable for girls who don't like the taste of latex in those situations where one of us (or both of us) insist on using a condom for oral sex. It seems to serve the purpose. However, I read recently that chocolate syrup is oil-based and should not be used for this purpose. Is this true? If so, what does that mean for me and my partners? Also, going forward, is there some other pleasant alternative we can use like honey?

chigirl agony auntBlah, flavored condoms still taste latex. Not a big fan. If they don't want to give you a bj without you wearing a condom, I assume these are one night stands, or maybe you have several FWB's going on? Anyway, I suppose the reason is to not get STI's, right? Have you been checked out so you know you are healthy?

I believe you can still use some sort of flavoring on your condoms, but perhaps avoid the ones that break the condom.. because then it'd be reduced protection, so that would make the condom almost pointless (because reduced protection is still better than no protection).

Also, what about other forms of sexual play than bjs? When I was with a man who had an STI, we had to use condoms for bjs. To alternate things, and not have to taste that horrid condom, sometimes I would just use my hand on him and at the same time give his thumb or fingers a bj instead. Mimicking the movements of my tongue on his fingers with my hand. It worked well. So that's something you could try for fun.

CindyCares agony auntYes, all oil based products may deteriorate latex and break it down quite fast, so do not use chocolate syrup on a condom.

Buy, instead , flavoured condoms, they are available in various tastes ( mint, chocolate, strawberry, etc. Rven bacon !, I am told . )

Or, use honey or jelly.

Or, try polyurethane, not latex , condoms- supposedly they taste less awful.
