Toria agony auntIf he is your best friend I would say your loyalties lie with him and you should go to his party, a birthday party is more important than a halloween party and I'm sure if it was the other way round you would expect your friend to pick your birthday party over a halloween party and if the girls whos halloween party is someone you like I'm sure it would show her how loyal you are to people close to you by going to his party not hers.

Good luck and enjoy whichever one you choose :o)

Pick ya best mates - he's ya best mate!

im sure tht halloween girl will have plenty of people at her party anyway - cos its a halloween party an you normally have a lot of people at one of those.

so say to the girl "sorry but i didnt realise my best mates party is on the same day as yours and i didnt realise, thats y i said yes to go to yours! sorry, hope u have a good time anyway! :D" thats all you need to say, im sure she'll understand... by the way, if your desperate to go to the halloween party then go to tht and tell your best mate you have already been invited to a party and tell him your sorry... - Simple :D

BeckaR agony auntBro's before you-know-what's. I am sure that you have heard this before and although it feels like your friend will always be there and this girl is important, your friend should be where your loyalty lies at this point. Explain it to the girl and I am sure that she will understand. Make a raincheque with her to go out on a different night.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (22 October 2006):

What times are the parties? Why not go to both spending half the evening with each friend? Talk to each friend and explain that you have been invited to two parties and would like to give them equal of your time as you value them both. Good friends will value you spending some time rather than no time at all with them.
