I'm worried that I look too young! How can I look older?

I know most people are concerned about ageing and looking older than their years, but I'm worried that I look TOO young!

I'm 23 years old, and I'm often mistaken for 16 or younger. Once or twice I have even been mistaken for 12 (of course this was from children who were 12, but even so it didn't make me feel very good).

To most people this wouldn't seem much of a problem, but I've met a guy who is five years older than me, and I'm worried that when I'm with him I'll still look like a child, and I really don't want to, not just for myself but so he never gets any comments about 'dating a young girl'.

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to make myself look more my age? Even if I could at least look 20 I'd be happy. I'm tired of looking like a teenager.

My girlfriend was about 4'10" and had the same problem. She was doing some research at an elementary school and she actually had some of the staff confuse her for one of the students, asking her "what are you doing out right now? get back to class," etc.

What she did to alleviate the hassle was to upgrade her wardrobe. Younger girls clearly tend to dress differently, and to make the distinction clear you'll need to carry yourself as an older and professional woman. It doesn't have to be a Hillary Clinton pantsuit, but that's the area I would go.

Danielepew agony auntI understand your problem, because it used to be mine, too. Now that I have salt-and-pepper hair, no one believes I'm my age; everybody assumes I'm much older. Fortunately, I learned not to worry about that when I looked much younger than I was.

PsyCookie agony auntOh my, I have the same situation! I'm almost 20 years old, but I look like a 13 year old!

And my boyfriend looks his age (also 20), so I sometimes wonder if people think if he's dating a child too! But he has assured me that he doesn't even think about it and that's one of the reasons why he finds me so cute. Many people have also told me that in the end looking so young would pay off.

But I have done a couple of things that have made me look older. The most obvious one is make up. Put on more adult make up on your face. If you don't wear make up and you don't know how to apply it, consult someone that knows how to, like a friend, your mom, or a cosmetologist (they're in Sears, Macy's, JCPenny).

Also, having a good haircut makes you look older. To me, bangs make me look older, so I often wear my hair like that.

Dressing more like an adult will make you look older. I have seriously tried this and it has worked. I once went to a restaurant with my parents, but I dressed kind of childish for that day (it was my birthday :P) and people thought I was 12 so I got reduced lunch price. Days later, I went there again but with my working clothes (I work in an office) and I paid regular price. So I do tell you, the way you dress will tell people how old you are!

But most likely this guy will not probably be put off by your young looks. Many guys like it that a woman looks young, specially when she will for a long time.
