Dear Cupid (and his little Cupid and Cupette helpers),

I am b-o-r-e-d.

Each day I try to do something exciting, something amazing, something cool... But at heart I am really, seriously, 100% A1++ bored. I am most content lazing on a sofa, listening to music.

Some background...............

I don't have a job (sold a company, cashed out $$)

I don't have a chick (in-between 'em)

I don't know what I want to do *next*

I'm almost 30

What do you do if you have (temporarily, I hope!!) lost your zest for life?

Any tips, advice? What can I actually DO on a day to day basis? Anyone else retired too early?

Hugs and Kisses!

Anon.

missbunbury agony auntFind a chick, is my advice! No, seriously, there's so much good you could be doing in the world. You'd feel better about yourself if you channeled some energy into helping others, maybe as suggested below through voluntary work. Alternatively, if you don't want to spend your time doing that, give some money away - some of us are living every single day not knowing where the next meal is coming from, so you could really make a difference and there's nothing like knowing you've saved someone's life to make you feel happier about your own life. Or you could become an inventor - invent the perfect sofa, and men the world over will worship at your feet! Start a new company, one that incorporates your own interests, whether it's a charter hot air balloon or an art gallery. Run it ethically, so you don't feel like the big bad boss. If you like kids, look into buddy schemes for deprived children, and make a child's life brighter with your very presence. You are a very lucky man, as I'm sure you know, and there are so many possibilites out there for you. You're obviously good at planning, to have run a successful business, so sit down and make a plan for yourself.

TRAVEL!! Are you kidding me? There is so much of the world to see, and you are one of the few people around who actually has the opportunity.

Go to South America - spend a week on the Inca Trail in Peru, on your way to Macchu Picchu. Hang out in the desert of northern chile, or on the islands in lake titicaca. Fly into iquitos (also in peru) and take a canoe down the river, marvelling at the rainforest all around you.

Or go to Russia and hop on the trans-siberian railroad. There are tons of websites detailing this trip - think of everything you could see.

Or jump on Amazon.com and buy all the books Ernest Hemingway wrote about Spain, then go there and see the things he saw.

Or go to a dude ranch in Montana, where they'll teach you to ride horses and run cattle.

Or get a job teaching English in some distant country, not to pay the bills, but just to keep you entertained; on the weekends, see as many new sights as you possibly can.

Pick up a guitar at your local music store and resolve to learn to play. Get one with nylon strings (not steel) and carry it with you on your travels. Find a beach in northern Brazil and just hang out; get a local musician to train you in the music of samba and bossa nova.

Traveling probably isn't a long-term, day-to-day solution to your problem of boredom, but the benefits of traveling will be. It will open your eyes to so much of the world that you haven't yet explored; somewhere in there, you'll find what your next calling really is.

And if none of that works, then go back to work not to make a living, but just to do something you enjoy. Join the Peace Corps. Become an elementary school teacher. Go to medical school. Buy a boat and become a fisherman or whale-watching tour guide. Just do something
